Spring is just around the corner, so they say. Or is it? Although winter seems to still have Northern Ohio in it’s grasp, Spring actually started early this year! In fact, it is early by approximately 20 days in southern Ohio. According to the USA National Phenology Network, southern parts of the country experienced a much earlier First Bloom than expected.
Phenology is the study of specific seasonal changes in plants and animals that can predict typical or atypical seasonal changes. Phenologists use flora, fauna, weather, and temperature patterns to predict annual seasonal changes across the globe. In other words, they study “nature’s calendar”.
