The bloom list for thsi week is overflowing as new color is being added daily to the garden. Blooming now are iris, oriental poppies, spiderwort, alliums, lilacs, honeysuckle, spirea, contorted filbert, Java Red weigla, horsechestnuts, dogwoods, azaleas, bleeding hearts, tree peonies, columbine and annuals are filling in the prepared beds. Unfortunatley there is not much good news on the rhododendron front. Just a handful of blooms to report Thursday afternoon (5/22) and not much on the horizon. The mountain laurel are already putting on new leaves and show little signs of blooms for June. Join us Saturday at 10am or next Wednesday at 6:30 pm to see if the rhododendrons are blooming more and what to do with all these winter damaged shrubs. There will also be an article about it in next wee’s garden e-newsletter, sign up at http://www.metroparks.cc if you don’t get it already!
