The Very Busy Spider Does Exist!

spider and web resizedThis argiope spider has found a great place for its web.  It caught these two unfortunate grasshoppers and a bumblebee (out of the picture) since yesterday afternoon.    It bites its trapped victims to paralyze them, wraps them up in the silk, and eats them when hungry.  The argiope spider is a large garden spider with yellow stripes.  The zigzag pattern in the web (seen close to the spider) is characteristic.  This picture was taken in the herb bed at Miller Nature Preserve in Avon.
