Agave spike is still growing

agave spike 1-25-13The agave spike at the Miller Nature Preserve Conservatory is still growing.  When last meastured it stood at 8’3″, growing 5 inches in 10 days.  While the growth rate has slowed a bit, that is still 1/2 inch each day.  The bud at the top, where we thought the flowers would be has gotten smaller.  Now we have noticed buds along the side (see photo).

What will the flowers look like?  We don’t know, but we will keep you posted, or stop by and check it out for yourself!
